Non-Retainer Clients
Non-Retainer clients are not obligated to a set number of hours on a monthly basis.  Pricing is based on an individual project and is contracted on a Statement of Work basis with a specified deliverable date of completion.

Self Funding Third Party Administration
 

Self funding provides maximum risk sharing and flexibility in plan design, while limiting liability. It strategically allows employers to manage benefit coverage, administration and funding. Smaller employers that are fully insured can explore the advantages that self funding affords by implementing partial self funding with stop loss coverage. Self funding takes the control from the insurance company and puts the employer in control. The employer determines what’s covered, the co-pay, the network, etc. The network rates, administrative costs and co-pays are negotiable with various network providers, including the insurance company’s networks.

How does it Work?
Based on actual prior claims experience, the employer determines an estimated amount to set aside for future claims, usually maintaining 2.5 to 3 times the monthly estimated claims. The actual claims are paid periodically (either daily, weekly or monthly) and the savings are realized instantly. For fully insured plans, the premium is paid to the insurer/carrier, the actual claims are paid and any difference, aka profit, is realized by the insurer/carrier, as opposed to the employer. As a precaution to unexpected high claims, the employer simply purchases a Stop Loss policy to protect against such instances.

CHALLENGES

  • Instantaneous termination of plan is difficult due to the lag in claims and stop loss coverage structured to insure claims incurred, but reported after the current plan year.
  • Budgeting the plan can be difficult, because insurers/carriers may be reluctant to provide actual claims experience, and budgets are dependent upon them.
  • Potentially poor or high claims experience, which would result in a more costly plan, but will ultimately result in a savings as compared to a fully insured plan.
  • Added fiduciary and legal responsibility by the employer, but, the TPA is the subject matter expert that the employer will rely on.
